DG Law School Denies Witholding Bar Results

todayMay 9, 2025

Background

Nigerian Law School Director-General, Professor Isa Chiroma has dismissed allegations of withheld Bar results, attributing delays to examination malpractices.

Speaking during an investigative hearing bothering on a motion on alleged withholding of Bar results and backlog of students awaiting call to the Bar,
Chiroma told the House of representatives Committee on Justice, Chaired by Olumide Osoba, that the Law School follows a strict process to address malpractices.

He presented visual evidence of exam malpractices and emphasized that results are released promptly after Council approval.

While noting that it is the statutory responsibility of the body of benchers to determine those who are qualified for call to Bar, the DG argued that those who failed the examination cannot be called to Bar.

He maintained that examination malpractices remain a grave offence for anyone caught during the examination period, noting that CCTV Cameras have been installed in various examination halls at the Law school in Abuja.

Responding to the presentation, Chairman of the Committee, Olumide Osoba who expressed the Committee’s satisfaction with the installation of CCTV in Law School, Abuja, underscored the need for additional budgetary provision for installation of CCTV in other Law Schools across the country.

He also gave the Law School management a clean health bill for providing various pictorial evidence of victims involved in exam malpractices which were presented to the Committee.

He however noted that the Committee will embark on oversight function to all the Law Schools across the country in the next few weeks, with a view to have first hand knowledge of the existing infrastructure put in place.
