FCTA Crushes 601 Impounded Motorcycles

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, through its Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), has crushed 601 impounded motorcycles in Abuja over traffic violations.

Mandate Secretary
for Transport, Dr. Elechi Chinedum who stated this in Abuja, urged those investing in this line of business to have a rethink, nothing that the FCT administration would not hesitate to enforce relevant traffic laws.

“We are acting under the regulation of the FCT. The most recent regulation, which is the law on this subject matter, is that of 1st of January 2023.”
“It was signed into law by the immediate past administration of Mohammed Bello as FCT Minister. So it’s a law. If you use your motorbike in particular areas, it’s against the law”.

“All laws are made, and then people take it upon themselves to violate the law. it’s about the security aspect, the criminality aspect. So, we have our people on the streets, and part of the work this directorate does is to enforce.”

He clarified that only the motorcycles of violators operating in unauthorized places would be seized.

“If you have a motorcycle in your house, we are not coming after you. But if you put it out within the area where you are not supposed to be, we will impound and crush it The law is there, and if they are not tired of breaking the law, we definitely will not be tired of enforcing it “.

Also, the Director, Directorate of Road Traffic Services, Dr. Abdulateef Bello, explained that the measure was to control the excesses of the riders as well as to check the security implications, even as he encouraged people not to invest their money in that line of risky business.

” You will recall that the ban was initiated in 2006. Commercial motorcycles have been used to facilitate crimes in the federal capital city.
So we are again using this medium to send messages to those who are still investing in this line of business to think twice. ”
