Deputy Speaker Urges Global Action For Post-War Recovery

todayApril 10, 2025

Background

Deputy Speaker of House Representatives,
Benjamin Kalu has
urged the global community to prioritize developing and implementing robust post-war recovery frameworks.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu made the appeal at the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Kalu emphasizes that this approach is both a moral imperative and a strategic necessity for securing lasting peace and stability in conflict-scarred regions.

He highlighted the devastating effects of conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, citing inadequate post-conflict reconstruction and weak governance structures as major obstacles to sustainable peace.

“Despite multiple peace agreements, sporadic violence persists, and economic marginalization and weak institutions have impeded peace efforts.

To achieve sustainable peace, Kalu advocates institutional strengthening, economic reconstruction, social reconciliation, and international support.

He believes that developing resilient governance structures, implementing comprehensive economic recovery plans, facilitating dialogue among warring factions, and leveraging global institutions are crucial steps towards achieving lasting peace.

“The Imperative for Strengthened Post-War Management,” emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts between the international community and national governments to develop and implement robust post-war recovery frameworks.

“By prioritizing these efforts, Kalu believes the world can transform lessons from past conflicts into a resilient foundation for a peaceful future.
