The adoption of climate-smart agriculture, sustainable land management practices, and effective policies and governance has been emphasized as essential for securing long-term food security in Nigeria.
Kogi State Project Coordinator, Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL),Ladi Ahmed Jatto made the call while delivering a lecture at the Federal University, Lokoja, on “Exploring the Nexus between Climate Change, Land Degradation, and Food Security”.
She highlighted the urgent need to address environmental challenges threatening food production in the country.
Jatto called for stronger stakeholder engagement, increased investment in research and development, and improved water resource management as key strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change and land degradation on food security.
She also encouraged the students to dedicate themselves to academic excellence and innovative research that could lead to sustainable solutions for food security challenges in Nigeria and across Africa.
