President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the FCT Minister, Dr Nyesom Wike’s administrative ideas, including the decision to remove the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
Tinubu who stated this when he hosted Wike, and a delegation of residents on an Eid homage to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the removal of FCTA From TSA, which is the initiative of the FCT Minister yeilded tremendous results.
Tinubu highlighted that the bureaucratic constraints associated with the TSA had hindered infrastructural growth in the capital city in the past.
He emphasized that reviewing these restrictions had led to significant improvements in infrastructure, healthcare services, and security measures.
The President commended the FCT administration for rehabilitating healthcare centers, upgrading school facilities, and improving the working conditions of civil servants.
He lauded Wike for demonstrating that reducing bureaucratic constraints was essential for effective governance and for restructuring the FCT public service to allow civil servants to aspire to leadership positions.
“I remember the day that the FCT minister came to meet me, and he said, please take us out of the problem of the TSA so that I can do more work and achieve more. I said show me what you are about to do, and he presented his plan and belief. And everything started changing rapidly. I started seeing the opening up of the rural areas by the FCT, the resuscitation of abandoned projects, and completion of the Vice President’s official residence that was abandoned for years.
“We wouldn’t have been able to open our mouths to celebrate if not because of the progressive ideas you brought to FCT. We can now celebrate the innovative ideas brought to the FCT,” Tinubu stated.
The President urged FCT residents and Nigerians at large to focus on results rather than ethnic or religious affiliations when choosing leaders. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration for national progress.
“Today, we live in peace, and security is improving. Hunger is coming down. Food prices are lowering. We can go to the market and do business. And our diversity and belief in ourselves are becoming stronger. We are not looking for magic. We are looking for results. We are looking for comfort. We are praying for good health. We are looking for someone who cares.”
Highlighting Wike’s contributions, Tinubu noted: “Surprisingly, Nyesom Wike is not from the North. He’s not a Hausa man. He’s from the southern part of Nigeria. And his ability to work in the center of the northern part of Nigeria is yielding fruits. That is a very good reflection of our diversity that we must use for our prosperity.”
The President called for continuous prayers for the nation’s progress, reminding citizens that power is a trust given by God and should be used for the collective good.
“I am just a custodian of your trust. It’s only Almighty Allah that gives power. And He says, ‘If I give it to you, you must use it in the righteous way. You must be humane. You must follow my teachings. And do great things,’” he said.
Tinubu further stressed the need for solidarity, urging Nigerians to support one another in both joyous and challenging times, particularly the less privileged.
“We must continue to share. We must continue to remember the less privileged people, the orphanage, the widows, the have-nots, believing that we can share both in joy and in times of need. And we can believe that Nigeria is greater than any one of us, including myself as the President.”
Expressing confidence in his administration’s ability to drive national transformation, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to implementing progressive policies that would foster development.
“Let us build together, continue in harmony. We can do great things in Nigeria. It’s true.”
Responding, Wike thanked the President for his support and pledged his loyalty and commitment to the development of the FCT, and assured that the FCT would soon complete many projects lined up for commissioning from May this year.
“Despite our varied backgrounds, we are united in our unwavering support for your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Wike said.
