The convener “Book the Kids Again” Initiative, Mr. Goodluck Hayi, says reading is paramount to a child’s personal, social, and academic success, as well as their overall well-being.
He stated this in Abuja over the weekend at the launch of his Initiative tagged “Book the Kids Again” targeted at inculcating reading culture among secondary school students.
Mr. Hayi who explained that the program’s objective was to help students develop their critical thinking, vocabulary, and comprehension skills, stressed that reading exposes students to new ideas and perspectives, helping them better understand the world around them.
Mr. Eldad Onojetah, a software developer and co-convener of the project, noted that the initiative encourages students to be more disciplined and dedicated to their academic pursuits.
Mr. Onojetah announced that the group plans to build software that enables students to track their reading progress and share ideas with their peers.
The launch also featured a reading competition among students from four schools in Abuja, where Miss Pearl Okereke emerged as the winner.
According to Miss Okereke, the competition taught her how to process information more efficiently, improved her research and communication skills, and boosted her confidence.
