FCT EXCO Approves ₦1.94b For Development Control Department

Background

The Federal Capital Territory Executive Committee (FCT EXCO) has approved the procurement of critical earth-moving machines and equipment for the Department of Development Control under the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC).

AMMC Coordinator, Chief Felix Obuah, stated this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting.

Chief Obuah said the contract, awarded to Matrak Nigerian Limited, is valued at ₦1,940,572,410, inclusive of VAT, with a stipulated delivery period of three weeks.

According to him, the acquisition of the machines is expected to enhance the efficiency of the Development Control department in carrying out its mandate.

Addressing concerns about the procurement, the AMMC Coordinator clarified that the equipment is not intended for demolition but for enhancing the department’s efficiency in city management.

“These machines are not targeted for demolition. They are for the overall interest of AMMC to enable us to perfect our job for the benefit of our city,” the coordinator stated.

The procurement includes five Caterpillar earth-moving machines:

SIM Card Wheel Loader – 1 unit

Caterpillar Wheel Loader 950 GC – 1 unit

Excavator 320 GS – 1 unit

Caterpillar Excavator 323 – 1 unit

Dozer D6 – 1 unit

Chief Obuah emphasized that with the procurement of these machines, the Department of Development Control will be better equipped to improve its operations in ensuring effective urban management across the FCT.
