The Nigeria Correctional Service , NCoS, says it has taken steps to ensure the safety of inmates after the flood incident that ravaged some parts of Maiduguri, Borno State .
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Abubakar Umar in a statement said the Service is tirelessly addressing the devastating impact of the flooding on its Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri.
According to the statement, the flood caused by the overflow and collapse of Alau Dam in Konduga Local Government Area ravaged the Custodial Centre.
It states that as the Agency responsible for safety of inmates, it will ensure their safety and that of the public.
“We want to assure the public that we are taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety”, Evacuate inmates to a safer facility, ensure smooth operations, Collaborate with sister security agencies and relevant agencies in providing support and assistance to those affected “.
The statement says Officers and Men of the Command are working around the clock to ensure smooth and secure transfer process.
It however appreciates the support and guidance from the Presidency and the Vice President’s visit to the centre to assess the situation.
The Service pledges to provide updates on the happenings stressing that NCoS is committed to maintaining order and ensuring public safety during this challenging time.
