The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has commenced investigation into the accident that claimed 37 lives and killed fifty cows along Bida-Agaie-Lapai- Road in Niger State.
The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, stated this in Minna when he paid a condolence visit to the government of Niger State.
Mr. Mallam Mohammed, who explained that the Corps Safety Engineering office has been directed to get to the root of the accident, noted that the outcome of the investigation would be forwarded to the appropriate authority for consideration.
He said FRSC would establish an outpost close to the vicinity of the accident to increase the visibility of the Corps and quick response to emergencies.
The Corps Marshal urged passengers to always speak out when drivers and other road users fail to adhere to safety rules.
Mallam Shehu Mohammed pointed out that the Corps would continue to align with the United Nations’ safe system approach to reduce Road Crashes in Nigeria.
Governor Umar Bago of Niger State represented by his Deputy, Yakubu Garba, while thanking the FRSC for their visit to condole with the state over the ugly incident tasked the Corps to enforce strict compliance with road safety rules by Motorists and other Road users.
The Niger State governor called for total overhaul of the nation’s road sector to minimize road accidents caused by bad roads.
The Governor reiterated the commitment of Niger State in Supporting Federal Government agencies in the State to deliver on their mandates.
Earlier, the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, was at the Minna sector command of the FRSC to speak with the officers and men on the need to redouble their efforts for effective traffic management in Niger state.
