The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, has expressed deep concern over the devastating flood that ravaged Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday and Tuesday.
The flood, caused by a downpour that led to the collapse of the Alao Dam, affected several key areas, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, and displaced thousands of people.
In a statement by his Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Musa Abdulahi Krishi Dr. Tajudeen calls for immediate action to provide relief to the affected residents,
“I am disturbed by the news of the ravaging flood in Maiduguri… This is a situation that calls for concern to every well-meaning Nigerian.
“He offered his thoughts and prayers to the people and government of Borno State, adding, “My heart goes out to the people of Maiduguri.”
The Speaker urges government agencies responsible for emergency response to take swift action to alleviate the suffering of the affected people.
He also warns residents in other cities predicted to experience flooding in the coming days and weeks to take necessary precautions.
