The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has emphasized the need for greater economic empowerment and inclusion of women in the nation’s politics.
In a message to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, Mr Kalu acknowledged the invaluable impact of Nigerian women on the country’s socio-economic development.
However, he noted that despite their impressive contributions, women still face significant barriers to political inclusion.
To address this disparity, Kalu advocated the passage of the Seat Reservation for Women Bill (HB1349), which aims to reserve seats for women in parliament.
“I firmly believe that increasing women’s representation in politics will have a transformative impact on our society,” Kalu said.
“It will accelerate social development, promote economic prosperity, and foster a more inclusive and equitable Nigeria.” Kalu said
The deputy speaker urged all stakeholders, particularly women’s organizations and advocacy groups, to join him in championing this cause.
