todayMarch 7, 2025

Background

In a concerted effort to bolster security and enhance the issuance of visa, the Nigeria Immigration Service has commenced a strategic training of one hundred and sixty personnel on the e-Visa system.

At the opening of the five day training in Abuja, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service Mrs Kemi Nandap said the system would also address illegal influx of people into the country .

According to Kemi Nandap, the training was organized to enhance speed, efficiency, and transparency in the issuance of visas in the country.

Mrs Kemi Nandap, who stated that the 160 personnel were drawn from all the formations in the service, reiterated that the NIS would do its best to ensure that the system becomes vibrant and efficient.

The CGIS explained that the system was a departure from what was obtained in the past and highlighted the importance of e-Visa solution.

” The training we are opening today is the e-Visa training and it’s a new system we have developed to enhance our efficiency and to make sure that we improve, of course on our processes, transparency, this system will also go a long way in making sure that we know who is coming into our country, we are more in tune with trends of visa issued to other people coming into the country.

” And this system is really a departure from what we initially had, not only are we doing thorough and proper vetting, we are also going to make sure that we have the documentation being warehoused and just warehoused but warehoused with NIS”.

The Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi 6 declaring the training open charged the personnel to uphold high ethical standards stressing that the Nigeria Immigration Service is the gateway to the nation.

” For the e-visa I want you to do a good job because honestly speaking a population of 230 million people, the biggest economy in Africa, the frustration people go through to get visa into Nigeria is unacceptable, let us call a spade a spade. To come to Nigeria should not be difficult , we are a very hospitable people. We want to see people come to Nigeria, let them come let us build an economy that will encourage people to come.

” The Immigration has a key role to play on the Ease of doing business, key role to play in terms of tourism and in terms of investment opportunities and a lot. The situation is beyond border security. Don’t forget you are the gateway to the nation. The impression you give about Nigeria is one that will always last forever. ”

Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo also noted that security of all Nigerians remains top priority in the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and urged the personnel undergoing the training to be more professional for improved service delivery.
