An alternative route that will bypass the Felele expressway and connect directly to the Federal University Lokoja is underway.
This is to reduce accidents on the highway.
Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf stated this when he paid a condolence visit to the management and staff of the Federal university Lokoja over the death of students in a recent accident along the Felele-Lokoja highway.
Mr Yusuf stated that the government’s decision to create an alternative route would go a long way in reducing road crashes on the highway.
He asserted that while this serves as an immediate solution, the state government was committed to exploring additional long term safety measures to address the issue.
The Commissioner conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Vice chancellor, the university community and the bereaved families.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwunmi expressed gratitude to the state government for the timely intervention.
He acknowledged the proactive approach taken since the tragic incident and affirmed the university’s support for the alternative route initiative.
The Commissioner visited the institution alongside the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Umar Aliyu Yusuf, and other top government functionaries.
