In a bid to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, has emphasized the importance of pursuing excellence and cultivating patience among Nigerian youths.

He made the call in Abuja during an interactive session with the 3rd Cohort of the Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI), tagged ‘An Afternoon With the Speaker.’

The Speaker noted that the 10th House has continued to prioritize issues affecting youths in the country.

He explained that, the parliament would open more channels of communication with them for exchange of ideas on how to better their lot.

Furthermore, he urged the young participants to take full advantage of the initiative by engaging actively with mentors, describing mentorship as a two-way street.

In addition, Speaker Abbas shared success stories from previous LMI participants who have gone on to make significant contributions in their communities or within government structures.

Similarly, he announced an internship program for 20 LMI alumni to gain real-life experience in legislative activities, and a social media platform for LMI graduands and the House leadership to facilitate interaction and exchange of ideas.

Moreover, the Speaker reiterated the commitment of the House to fostering an environment where young leaders can thrive.

In line with this, he announced plans to increase the next LMI cohort by 25.

He emphasized the importance of transparency, honesty and advised the younger generation to be patient and not lose hope.

Notably, the Speaker also pointed out that the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House is the best ever produced by the National Assembly, which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Additionally, he added that gender-related bills, including affirmative action, would enjoy better attention in the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution.
