The Director General of the National Metallurgical Development Centre, NMDC, Jos, Professor Linus Asuquo says the
steel sector needs modern technology to thrive in this digital age.
Professor Asuquo stated this while briefing newsmen shortly after a meeting with development partners in the Ministry of Steel Development in Abuja.
He noted that unemployment and poverty will be a thing of the past if Nigeria starts producing steel.
The Director General also stressed that Nigeria needs partners to make sure that all the gaps in the steel sector are corrected.
“The technology is so obsolete we need modern technology, this is digital age but we can not produce steel” he stressed.
“As we have been told that steel is the hub of industrialisation, what we need in this country is industrialisation because most of the things are imported.”
“The starting point is for us to start producing our own steel.By the time we start producing steel in this country, you will see that we will generate employment, create wealth, and also reduce foreign exchange.”
