Former Chairman, House Adhoc Committee on Students Loans Terseer Ugbor, has called for openness and transparency in the management and disbursement of loans to tertiary institution students in the country.
During a visit to his constituency office in Benue state, Ugbor cautioned the Nigerian Education Loan Fund,
Nelfund against politicizing the management of the funds, including vendor selection and staff recruitment.
He expressed concern over the lack of public records on loan disbursements, including the number of Benue state students who have received loans, the total amount spent, loan duration, repayment plans, participating institutions, and insurance coverage.
Ugbor who is the member Representating Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency of Benue State questioned the disbursement of loans without credit life and health insurance for students, wondering how funds would be recovered in case of death, disability, or default.
The Lawmaker urged for greater transparency in student loan management, emphasizing it as a crucial aspect of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s legacy initiatives.
