In a bid to further enhance border security, the Nigeria Immigration Service has trained one hundred personnel on Advanced Passenger Information and Passenger Name Records API/PNR data on National Security and Law enforcement .
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service Mrs Kemi Nandap said in Abuja that the training also exposed participants to the standard composition of passenger information and global standards in Passenger data processing.
The five day capacity training with the theme ‘ API/PNR data analytics and key procedures was chosen to bridge the gap observed in the operations of the command and control since its commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service Mrs Kemi Nandap said that for the service to justify the present administration’s investment in the project, high-level data processing and analysis must be top notch in its operations.
Mrs Kemi Nandap who commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for their commitment to the ongoing reforms in NIS disclosed that the service has well trained personnel that would not rest on their oars to make the country proud.
In a remark, the Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo stated that the Federal Government is working towards introducing the e-Visa solution for all categories of travellers into the country by March this year.
Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the replacement of the Visa-on-Arrival noting that Landing and Exit cards will be introduced and integrated into the solutions for travellers to complete before arriving in Nigeria.
The Minister noted that the Visa-on-Arrival policy failed to meet global standards and best practices, stressing that the government would unveil multifaceted solutions between March and April this year.
Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need to harmonize the Immigration data centre and have integrated solutions for decisions that has to do with migration into the country stressing that such harmonization would make it impossible for approvals to be given without clearance from relevant authorities.
