NIS Moves To Enhance Migration Mgt, Border Security

todayFebruary 20, 2025

Background

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance Migration Management and Border Security, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has continued her high-level engagements with the Dutch Migration and security agencies.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Service Akinsola Akinlabi says the CGIS visited the Rotterdam Seaport with her delegation and met with officials of the Dutch Marine Police who provided them with firsthand experience of passenger clearance procedures at the seaport.

The statement says a detailed presentation was made on the Advance Passenger Information (API) System, highlighting its role in pre-screening travelers, enhancing border control efficiency, and improving international cooperation on migration data exchange.

It states that the second leg of the visit took the delegation to Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport, where they engaged with officials of the Royal Dutch Marechaussee otherwise known as Dutch Border Police, including the Commander of the Brigade.

It says that during the engagement, the Comptroller General and her team observed live operations involving the clearance of arriving and departing passengers, as well as the processing of forced returns at the airport.

The statement says the key highlight of the visit was an exclusive tour of the Marechaussee’s Document Fraud Lab, where a presentation was delivered on advanced document fraud detection techniques.

It states that the session provided insights into the latest technologies and best practices in identifying fraudulent travel documents, which is a critical area in Border Security management.

The engagements reinforced the Nigeria Immigration Service’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships, adopting cutting-edge technologies, and enhancing operational capacity in Border Security and Migration Management.
