The Nigerian Senate has withdrawn its decision on the affected line items and the long title as passed, recommitting them to the Committee of Supply for reconsideration and passage.
The reconsideration followed a motion by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Solomon during plenary in Abuja.
Presenting the motion before the red chamber, Senator Olamilekan stated that the 2025 Appropriation Bill was passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
He, however, stated that the committee observed some inadvertent errors in the line items passed by both chambers during the process of cleaning and realignment, as discovered by the Joint Committee on Appropriations.
Adeola noted that the total sum of ₦54.990 trillion, the statutory transfer of ₦3.645 trillion, and the debt service of ₦14.317 trillion remain unchanged as passed.
The Recurrent (Non-Debt) Expenditure was increased to ₦13.588 trillion, while the Capital Expenditure was reduced to ₦23.439 trillion as a result of corrections and realignments made by the committee.
Noting that the Joint Committee on Appropriations has implemented these corrections in the Appropriation Bill, the Long Title now reads as follows:
A Bill for an Act to authorize the issuance of the total sum of ₦54.990 trillion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation, of which ₦3.645 trillion is for Statutory Transfers, ₦14 trillion is for Debt Service, ₦13.588 trillion is for Recurrent (Non-Debt) Expenditure, while ₦23.439 trillion is allocated as a contribution to the Development Fund for Capital Expenditure for the year ending December 31, 2025.”
This adjustment was made in accordance with Orders 1(B) and 52(6) of the Senate Standing Orders 2023 (as amended).
