The Osun State Caucus of the 10th National Assembly has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the state’s escalating political crisis by directing the National Security Adviser and the Inspector General of Police to immediately restore law and order.
Briefing newsmen in Abuja, the leader of the Osun caucus in the House of representatives, Bamidele Salam, explained that the crisis stemmed from conflicting interpretations of a Court of Appeal judgment regarding the sacking of elected local government chairmen.
Salam emphasized that the continued unrest could lead to a full-scale crisis if left unchecked, and warned that those seeking to unlawfully seize control of local government councils would face legal consequences.
The Lawmakers strongly condemned the attack in Osun State, especially with the local government election scheduled for this Saturday and raised concerns about the safety and security of the electoral process
The Caucus reaffirmed their support for the state Government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, in defense of democracy and the rule of law.
