NSCC To Collaborates With Civil Society Groups To Enhance Healthy Aging

The National Senior Citizens Center (NSCC) has called on civil society groups to compliment the efforts of the agency to promote healthy aging and improve the quality of life for older persons.

The Director general of NSCC,Dr Emem Omokaro made the call during a courtesy visit by Urhobo Leadership Forum ably led by its President and Ace Broadcaster,Mr Peter Igho in Abuja.

Dr. Omokaro highlighted NSCC’s programs aimed at restoring dignity and improving the quality of life for the elderly, including empowerment initiatives, healthcare support, and social engagement activities.

She stressed the importance of intergenerational knowledge sharing, stating,

This visit is a testament to the growing recognition of the need for a united front in addressing the needs of our senior citizens. We look forward to a fruitful partnership that will enable us to expand our reach and improve our services for the elderlyā€¯,

Aging is a broad spectrum, and we always seek to improve. We believe in partnership and continuous engagement.”

Earlier in his remarks, the President and Leader of the delegation, Mr Peter Igho while appreciating the commitment of NSCC in changing the narratives of older persons emphasized the need for collective efforts in productively engaging the elderly.

Igho announced plans for a major summit in Abuja, seeking collaboration with NSCC to improve the lives of senior citizens and promote national development.

He criticized the neglect of retirees in Nigeria, contrasting it with Western countries’ respectful treatment of retirees.

The partnership aims to leverage collective efforts, resources, and expertise to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life for Nigeria’s senior citizens.
