President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the construction of Kuje to Pegi and Kuje to Kwaku roads in addition to several other ongoing projects in satellite towns.
Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike who stated this while commissioning the newly constructed LEA – Secretariat -Tipper Garage road in Kuje Area Council, said Tinubu’s Administration is not about party politics, but governance that impacts lives.
The Minister further explained that President Tinubu has also committed N50bn to water projects for the satellite towns in this year’s budget, in line with his promise to give priority to development of rural areas to curb rural- urban migration.
The FCT Minister, who stressed that the FCT Administration can justify the taxes being collected in the territory, said every responsible government owes taxpayers’ explanation.
Wike, therefore, urged tax payers and those owning ground rents and C-of-Os to pay their taxes to enable them to hold the government accountable for what their taxes are spent on.
“We owe you a duty to let you know. Taxes paid must be used for the interest of the people. So, I have told everybody who cares, ask us, “all these taxes we are paying, what are you doing with it? We can show them what we are doing with it” Wike assured.
Earlier, the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo who called for FCTA’s intervention in provision of potable water and construction of the Kwaku and Pegi roads, described Wike’s infrastructural strides within the last 17 months in office as a ‘rain of blessing’that is falling on people of the FCT, and Nigerians at large.
“There can never be another Wike.Kuje is wearing a new look. If you are in Kuje at night, you will think you are in Maitama or Asokoro. No matter what anybody may say, with you, FCT is better and will continue to be better by the Grace of God.”
