Army To Leverage On Past Experiences To Enhance Operations

The Nigerian Army says it will leverage on past experiences to strengthen current and future operations and enhance its operational effectiveness.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by Army Chief of Operations, Major General Benson Sinjen who stated this at the closing ceremony of a three-day retreat on the Nigerian Army’s operations in the northwest zone underscored the need for continuous review and enhancement of security measures.

According to him, the retreat was marked by valuable insights and a call for improved strategies to address the region’s security challenges.

He stressed the retreat’s objective of drawing from past experiences to strengthen current and future operations.

The Army Boss acknowledged the efforts of the organizers and the contributions of the participants, especially the retired senior officers who provided valuable insights.

General Lagbaja who reiterated the importance of jointness, cooperation, and collaboration in modern military operations, called on commanders to be innovative, courageous, and effective communicators, and to work closely with other agencies to ensure the security of the northwest zone, which is a crucial trade axis for Nigeria.

The Director-General of the Nigeria Army Resource Center, retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, while underscoring the significance of the retreat, emphasized the need for the Army to critically assess its performance, identify strengths and weaknesses, and adopt better practices for improved efficiency.

He noted that former commanders and senior officers were specifically invited to provide a comprehensive review of the Army’s operations in the northwest.

The retreat had in attendance prominent figures such as former Chief of Defense Staff, General Olonisakin and former Chiefs of Army Staff Lieutenant General T.Y. Buratai and Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya.
