Why We Rejected Budget For Ministry Of Information – Senate

todayJanuary 14, 2025

Background

The Senate has rejected the Proposed 2025 Budget Allocation to the Ministry of Information and National Orientation and all the agencies under the Ministry.

The Chairman Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, Senator Kenneth Eze told newsmen that the Budget proposal was inadequate for the Ministry to effectively carry out its statutory functions.

Senator Eze explained that with the situation in the country, there was the need to effectively communicate Government Policies and Programmes to Nigerians as well as get feedback from the citizens, hence the need for adequate budgetary allocation

According to the Committee, so many programmes of the government were not well understood by the citizens despite the good intentions behind the programmes, hence the need to invest in enlightenment and value reorientation of the citizens

The Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Garba Musa Maidoki, while also expressing concerns over the poor funding of the Ministry emphasized that some of the crises in the country would have been curtailed if Nigerians were adequately sensitized on the causes.
