The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has expressed profound gratitude to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for signing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law.
This historic signing approves the creation of a commission dedicated to addressing the region’s developmental challenges.
Sponsored by Kalu and fellow lawmakers from the South East region, the bill establishes a commission responsible for managing funds allocated from the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged during the civil war.
The commission will also tackle ecological problems and environmental challenges in Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi States.
In a statement in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, the Deputy speaker thanked President Tinubu, his colleagues in the National Assembly, and all Nigerians for their support.
He also extended his appreciation to the people of the South East region, assuring them of continued positive attention from the President.
