todayJanuary 14, 2025

Background

The House of Representatives Committee on Army has called on Nigerians to be patient as the Nigerian Army works to tackle the nation’s insecurity challenges.

Chairman of the Committee on Army, Aminu Balele made the appeal in his opening remarks during the 2025 budget defence of the Nigerian Army led by Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.

Balele, while acknowledging that Nigerians demand quick results in addressing insecurity in the country, explained that the committee is dedicated to supporting the military through adequate budgetary provisions.

Speaking with newsmen after a closed door meeting with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Balele expressed satisfaction with the army’s 2024 budget performance,
citing excellent implementation and a 99% achievement rate.

The Committee Chairman urged the Nigerian military to explore alternative methods in addressing the country’s insecurity challenges, focusing on community engagement, dialogue, and socio-economic development.
