Yuletide : Nigerian Baptist Convention Puts Smile On Faces Of Widows

Background

As part of measures to put smiles on the faces of widows and widowers this festive season, the Social Ministries Department of the Nigerian Baptist Convention has distributed food items and empowered some widows and widowers in the Northern Zone of the country.

On the occasion held in First Baptist Church, Garki Abuja, the Director, Social Ministries Department of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Elizabeth Iyabo – Aderounmu appealed to President Bola Tinubu’ to put in place policies and measures that would alleviate the current economic challenges in the country.

Dr Iyabo Aderounmu explained that the Social Ministries Department of the Nigerian Baptist Convention is a body established to cater for the needs of indigent members such as orphans, widows, widowers, the needy as well as the vulnerable ones in the Convention.

According to her, the annual Christmas gathering for widows and widowers is, therefore, part of its mandate to put smiles on their faces during the Christmas season.

The director who expressed concern over the current economic challenges confronting widows in the country appealed to the government at all levels to put in place measures towards cushioning the challenges.

In a remark, the President, FCT Baptist Conference, Revd Dogara Raphael Gwana stressed the need for the federal government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to effectively reach out to the needy through the Church and other credible means especially at a time like this.

While also expressing concern over the economic hardship facing some windows in the country, Revd. Gwana admonished them to be steadfast in faith and prayers towards overcoming life challenges.

Also speaking, the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Garki Abuja, Reverend Tom Tapatore equally stressed the need for measures to empower widows in the country.

Reverend Tapatore advised them to always engage in positive ventures and be committed to the service of God.

Some of the widows, Hannah Gana and Joyce Adams, who benefited from the empowerment and food items, commended the Social Ministries Department of the Nigerian Baptist Convention for the gesture.

Highpoints of the event were medical check up, distribution of food items and cash gifts of fifteen thousand naira each to further empower sixteen widows.
