The Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association NAFOWA has reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting individuals with special abilities and fostering an inclusive society.
Speaking at the commemoration of this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Abuja, NAFOWA’s National President Rakiya Abubakar in line with the association’s motto service to humanity, highlighted the need for greater inclusivity, accessibility, and equality for persons with disabilities.
In her keynote address, the National President emphasized that NAFOWA’s initiatives, including the establishment of its Special Needs School, are designed to empower individuals with disabilities by providing quality education and therapeutic services tailored to their unique needs.
She called for sustained collaboration to ensure persons with disabilities have access to inclusive education, employment, and healthcare services, emphasizing the need to continue building a society where everyone is valued and empowered.
One of the pupils, who thrilled the audience with his Braille performance, urged people to look beyond their limitations and embrace their unique abilities.
The highlight of the occasion was a series of engaging activities, including cultural dance performances, a fashion parade, and the distribution of essential materials to the students and the school.
The Guest of Honour, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, was represented by Ogogho Musa, President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association DEPOWA.
Other notable attendees include the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for People with Disabilities, representatives from the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association NAOWA, Nigerian Navy Officers Wives Association NOWA, and Police Officers Wives Association POWA, among others.
