100 Women Trained, Empowered In FCT

todayDecember 3, 2024

Background

To contribute to the nation’s economic development, one hundred women in the Federal Capital Territory have been trained and empowered with essential skills to support their personal goals and contribute to the nation’s economic development.

The training, organised by the National Council for Women Societies, NCWS, FCT chapter, aligns with the Renewed Hope Training and Empowerment initiative, targeting indigent women, including those with disabilities.

Speaking at the occasion in Abuja, the Mandate Secretary, FCT Women Affairs, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi emphasized that this initiative is essential to ensure women are not relegated to the background but are empowered to maximize their full potential.

Mrs. Benjamin-Laniyi urged the women to harness opportunities available in the digital space to market their products, enabling them to extend their reach beyond the shores of Nigeria.

“We are empowering women in digital education, what this entails is boosting their businesses, to package things, we train you on how to become literate, so that you can be relevant in your own business. So, where you are, “You don’t need to go to any market, the market will come to you. The market you package online, you will be seeing people call you even from Rome, from France and everywhere in the world.”

Earlier, the Chairperson, NCWS, FCT chapter, Mrs. Hadiza Abdullahi-Umar, who encouraged the participants to seize the opportunity to acquire skills that would enhance their leadership capacities, noted that the training represents a vital step towards achieving the organization’s goals.

According to Mrs. Abdullahi- Umar “as part of our little contribution to the actualisation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, today’s empowerment and workshop is estimated at fifteen million naira only. It is divided into three components, including vocational training, financial grants, empowerment, and starter packs presentation to the beneficiaries to help lift them and their families out of poverty.”

“Poverty is something we can not eradicate totally at once. Accordingly, the empowerment program will continue in due course with the second phase to accommodate more beneficiaries from the FCT and Niger state Therefore, our prayers and requests are to the honorable Minister of the FCT to give us financial support in the following areas.”

We further solicit more intervention in “Increasing the budget of the NCWS in the FCT and a bus to be conveying us and aiding our activities in the rural areas.”

On behalf of the participants, Mrs Rose Nwachukwu appreciated the stakeholders for the opportunity and pledged to utilize skills acquired to boost the nation’s economic growth.

The participants were trained on how to produce custard, toiletries, and insecticides.
