The Kano State Caucus in House of Representatives has underscored the need for expert legal input to enhance legislative processes.
At a meeting with representatives of the international Federation of women Lawyers, FIDA, Nigeria, Kano State Chapter, held in Abuja, the Lawmakers underscored the importance of leveraging on expert advice, particularly from lawyers to ensure that the laws they draft and deliberate upon are comprehensive, enforceable and aligns with constitutional provisions.
Speaking with the visiting Female lawyers, the leader of the Kano and Northern Caucus in the House, Alhassan Ado Doguwa explained that despite their experience, Lawmakers still require input from experts like FIDA to fill the knowledge gap in lawmaking.
Doguwa, who has been in the House of Representatives for 34 years, encouraged FIDA members to participate in the constitutional review process currently ongoing in the National Assembly.
Earlier, the Chairperson, FIDA, Kano State Chapter, Bilkisu Suleman highlighted the organization’s mission to provide free legal services to the less privileged, promote the rights of women and children, and advocate for access to justice.
