In continuation of his developmental agenda for residents of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Chairman of the council, Christopher Maikalangu, has performed the ground breaking ceremony to mark commencement of the construction of a 2.5 kilometer road in Waru community.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Maikalangu said it was aimed at meeting the aspirations of residents as the bad road was affecting their businesses and livelihood, especially pregnant women.

He said: “There is no community that will develop without access roads. Our pregnant women in Waru have suffered without good roads. The most expensive project in AMAC is road projects. My research reveals that it is mostly roads that are needed by AMAC communities.

“I listened to the cries of Waru people and that is why I decided that the road project will begin from Waru to Yimitu.

However, we need the cooperation of the residents. As a community, if you need roads, you have to give the needed cooperation to the contractors.

“Don’t tell me that it will affect your shop or your house. Without the cooperation of the community, we can just as well take the project to other communities who may need it. By tomorrow, you will see contractors here with tractors.

“Also, we need the youth to supervise the construction. Supervise it very well so that if there is something wrong, you will draw my attention to it. It is not after one year, I will be called back to see how the road has been damaged.

“Also, we cannot do everything for communities because of poor resources. That is why we are spreading the development to different wards of AMAC. It is not only Waru that needs roads. Some communities need schools, water, electricity, and other things.

That is why we site different projects in different wards according to priority.”

Also speaking, the Supervisory Councillor for Works, Hon. Dantani Zaudna, said the project is divided into two phases, which is the first phase of 1 kilometre and the second phase of 1.5 kilometres stretch of roads.

He said the road which will be asphalted, have drainages and will encourage development in the community.

While showing his appreciation, the Hakimi of Waru, Ambassador Ibrahim Sarki, commended Maikalangu for the road project, describing it as the most important need of the people.

He said the road project will ensure the development of the community as many of the residents are affected by the bad roads, especially during the rainy season.
