Kogi State Government says it is reviewing the law establishing the State Vigilante Service to incorporate local hunters recently recruited across the twenty one Local Government Areas.

This is to further enhance the security architecture of the state and boost the fight against criminality and safeguard lives and property.

The Special Adviser on Security to Kogi State Governor, retired Navy Commander Jerry Omodara stated this in an interview with Newsmen in Lokoja while commenting on the 25th anniversary of democracy in Nigeria.

Omodara explained that expanding the law became imperative in view of the state’s multi-faceted approach in addressing security challenges.

While reiterating that democracy remained the best form of government to empower the people, the Security Adviser restated the commitment of the Ododo led administration in routing criminal elements out of the state and making it uninhabitable for trouble makers.

According to Omodara, Kogi is synergizing with neighbouring states so as to intensify collective efforts in tackling interstate crime.

Omodara disclosed that plans were on to procure more vehicles and crime fighting technological gadgets for security agencies in the state, in addition to those recently given to local hunters.

He however expressed regret over the death of two students of Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara kidnapped alongside their colleagues, saying the heat given to the perpetrators showed that the state was not a safe haven for criminals.

Retired Commander Omodara therefore implored citizens to be committed
towards ensuring safety by playing their roles in providing credible and timely information to security agencies and not harbour any criminal in their communities.
