HOR : Speaker Appoints Jibrin Chairman Committee On Housing

In a move aimed at strengthening the legislative oversight of the housing sector, the Speaker of the House of Representives Dr, Abbas Tajudeen has appointed Mr Abdulmumin Jibrin as the new Chairman of the Committee on Housing and Habitat.

In a statement in Abuja, the lawmaker having previously served as Chairman of the Committees on Finance, Appropriation, Transport, and Foreign Affairs, as well as Executive Director of the Federal Housing Authority will bring his wealth of experience to the role.

According to the Statement, the Committee on Housing and Habitat has oversight jurisdiction over the Federal Ministry of Housing and its agencies, including the Federal Mortgage Bank, Federal Mortgage Finance, and the Family Homes Fund, as well as issues on housing and Budget estimates of the ministry and agencies.

“The Committee is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of government housing policies and programmes, as well as promoting sustainable development and habitat agenda principles.

“The Committee’s jurisdiction also extends to maintaining relationships with international organizations such as the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat), the Global Forum of Parliamentarians on Habitat, and Habitat for Humanity International.

“The Committee is expected to advise the House on legislation and policy matters related to urban development and housing, with a focus on conforming to the principles and commitments of the Habitat Agenda.
