The Africa Health Budget Network Coordinator, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba has announced a commitment of One Million Naira as a take-off grant for the new innovative financing mechanism ‘Emergency and Health Hazards Trust Fund’.
The Africa Health Budget Network, is a regional group that uses budget advocacy to influence adequate health spending and improve transparency and accountability.
Dr Magashi made the announcement in Abuja at the congress of the Association of Nigeria Health Journalists (ANHeJ)
AHBN has paid the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only (N 250,000) to the ANHeJ dedicated bank account for this trust fund to support health journalists in the line of duties concerning emergency and health hazards.
These include emergency problems such as physical injuries, mental injuries, assault, theft, and flooding.
The Africa Health Budget Network Coordinator said there was the need for other organisation to key into Trust Fund as the media carry out vital roles in the society.
”We humbly call and encourage philanthropists to key into this joint initiative and support health journalists in Nigeria to function and deliver on their mandate,” he said.
On his part, ANHeJ’s President, Joseph Kadiri who commended the gesture said the fund would be judiciously utilized, with a promise to set up a committee for the same purpose.
