The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has strongly condemned the attack on a military checkpoint at Obikabia junction in Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State, which resulted in the death of four soldiers.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Kalu describes the killing of the military personnel as “unwarranted, outrageous, unjust, cruel, and absolutely condemnable.”
He urges the people of Aba, known for their entrepreneurial spirit and technical skills, not to be misled into thinking that violence is in their best interest.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, reminded the people that Aba is the commercial hub of the South East and hosts people from all walks of life and urges them to maintain their traditional hospitality and not embrace violence, which is alien to Igbo culture.
While acknowledging efforts to address insecurity in the South East through non-kinetic approaches, he appeals to the people to support government’s development initiatives in the region.
The Deputy Speaker commiserates with the families of the victims and assures the military hierarchy of legislative support to investigate the attack and prevent future occurrences.
He sues for peace among the people and the Nigerian armed forces, emphasizing the need for harmony to ensure the progress and development of Abia State and the South East region.
