The need to impact positively on children has been advocated.
The Program Manager of an NGO, Victor Samson who stated this when he visited some pupils at Karon majiji community, a suburb of the FCT, said mentorship of these children would ensure they become good citizens who would not engage in activities that could disrupt the peace of the country.
“We always look out for children we can help, today is children’s day, we chose this community, because of the peculiarity of this community, because majority of the parents are less privileged, they are handicapped, so we want to encourage the children by building youths for a better future.”
In an interview, some school children at the suburb appealed for a better learning environment and urged the government to ensure that their peers were not denied quality education.

“I want the government to provide the necessary environment to learn, we have toilets in my school, but we don’t have drinking water, and I want every child to be in school. Education is the backbone of any success this makes them to be somebody in life.”
Also speaking on the theme “Enhancing the well being of the Nigerian child through quality and skilled development”, a volunteer at a primary school, Mrs Genevieve Ajayi stressed the need to have passion in developmental programmes for the future of young Nigerians.
According to Mrs Ajayi, “Naturally It’s just in me to help humanity, I am a mother and a mother should have empathy for kids, when we came here I discovered the students don’t pay fees, it’s only PTA fee and they are short of teachers, I want to liase with the school to be coming to teach at least 3 times in a week, the children need help.”
