Local Govt System, Key To National Security – PBAT

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has highlighted the critical importance of the local government system in strengthening Nigeria’s national security.

Represented by the Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru, at a national discussion on security and governance in Abuja, the President called for immediate legislation to enhance the autonomy and effectiveness of local administrations.

President Tinubu stressed that empowered local governments are crucial for ensuring community safety, prosperity, and resilience.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating state of local government systems, President Tinubu noted that their decline has significantly impeded national development and the ability to address security challenges effectively.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to revitalizing local governments, emphasizing the need for resources and capabilities to implement sustainable development initiatives that promote economic stability and national security.

The President expressed hope that the discussions would result in practical measures to strengthen local governance in Nigeria.

The event, organized by the House of Representatives, emphasized the essential role of local governments in providing key services such as healthcare, education, sanitation, and social welfare directly to communities.
