In a significant step towards modernizing the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Police Affairs, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, is set to finalize and implement the Revitalized Police Agenda and Transformation Roadmap.
The Minister of Police Affairs Senator Ibrahim Gaidam stated this at the ongoing ministerial sectoral update as part of activities to mark the achievements of the present administration in the last one year.
According to him, the roadmap which consolidates all previous police reforms is in alignment with presidential directives aimed at addressing current challenges and reshaping the police force into a modern, proactive, and efficient entity.
He explained that major investments were underway to modernize the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano noting that these projects include the reconstruction of cadet hostels, construction of drainage and roads, and the establishment of an entrepreneurship center.
The Minister further highlighted the ministry’s
achievements over the past year to include
the establishment of the National Criminal Data Fusion Center, Strengthening the West African Police Information System, Automation of Police Specialized Services, and the Launch of the Special Intervention Squad, amongst others.
He noted that specialized units like the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Crack Squad have been deployed in the FCT to combat kidnapping and violent crimes, resulting in the apprehension of 1,190 suspects undergoing screening and interrogation.
Senator Gaidam also stated that significant investments have been made in surveillance systems, drones, and communication technologies to enhance real-time data collection and response capabilities.
He stressed that the integration of forensic technology has also improved criminal investigations and identification even as security along the Abuja-Kaduna highway and train service route has been bolstered, leading to the apprehension of 63 suspects linked to violent crimes along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
Senator Gaidam
who reiterated the commitment of the ministry,
to build a safer and more prosperous Nigeria for all,
emphasized ongoing efforts to improve the effectiveness and accountability of law enforcement agencies in the country.
