Residents of Old Chukuku in Kwali Area Council of the FCT are calling for the provision of boreholes to put an end to consumption of polluted stream water in the community.
They made the call while interacting with correspondent Bako Abdullahi who visited the community in Kwali Abuja.
Old Chukuku is one of the Oldest community in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
It is about fifteen kilometers away from Kwali town.
The community lacks basic amenities such as good roads, pipe borne water, schools, electricity, healthcare centres, among others.
According to the residents, the situation has been affecting their socioeconomic wellbeing over the years.
Some Women leaders in the area, Imani Elesha and Mrs Macy Sarki, who spoke on the challenges of lack of basic amenities most especially potable water in the area said it had affected their domestic and economic activities.
On his part the youth leader, Mr Samson Garba called on the authority concerned for urgent provision of potable water to avoid outbreak of diseases in the area.
Also, the community leader, Prince Aminu Sarki, appealed to Kwali area council to come to their aid.
In his reaction the Head of information Kwali Area Council Mr, Abila Emmanuel appealed to the residents of the community to exercise patience as necessary steps would be taken to address their plight.
Mr, Emmanuel reiterated the commitment of the Council towards the development of rural communities in the area.
