AMAC : Residents Of Angwan Kwankwaso Appeal For Provision Of Potable Water

todayMay 18, 2024

Background

Residents of Angwan Kwankwaso and Karba Communities in Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC have called for the provision of potable water in their Areas.

They made the call when Kapital FM visited the communities in Abuja.

Correspondent Garry Ochigbo reports that lack of potable water in the communities has been affecting economic and domestic activities.

Angwan Kwankwaso is located at the extreme part of Karshi, about 25-30km drive from the city center, while Karba is also approximately 20-25km situated between kubwa and dei-dei express way, all in the Federal Capital Territory.

Residents of the two communities are predominantly peasant farmers and have been suffering over time without basic amenities such as potable water, electricity, health care centres, and good road network, among others.

Both communities depend solely on a stream as their major source of water supply for domestic use despite the powered solar borehole provided to serve the large number of residents, this is because the borehole was sited very far from the communities.

The stream serves diverse purposes for drinking, laundry, and as a drinking point for cattle.

Other unwholesome activities such as open defecation is being carried out there too.

The residents who lamented over the age long challenge appealed to government to bring development closer to the people at the grassroots for them to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The Youth leader of Karba community Mr Ayuba Agbi who said the living condition of residents of the area poses a threat to their health and well-being appealed to the government to meet the yearnings of the people by providing potable water and other necessities of life to them.

On his part, the Hakimi of Karshi community, Mr Ahmed Doka said despite the installation of solar powered borehole in the area residents still find it difficult to access potable water due to lack of maintenance.

In his reaction, AMAC supervisory councillor on special duties Emmanuel Inyang who expressed dissatisfaction over the plight of residents of the communities despite the installation of solar powered boreholes promised to wade into the issue in earnest in the interest of the people.

Mr Inyang reiterated the determination of the Council towards people oriented projects to enable them to benefit from the dividends of democracy.
