A Former Caretaker Chairman of Omala local council of Kogi State, Dr. Jerome Aduojo has expressed concern over the spate of killings in Agojeju-Odo, Ajokpachi-Odo, and Bagana areas of the State which led to the killings 21 persons.
Aduojo, in a statement claims that the people of the affected area and neighboring communities have deserted their ancestral lands to seek refuge in Abejukolo-Ife, the Omala local council headquarters with no internally displaced persons, IDPs, centers on ground.
Aduojo, who is also President of Ojone Foundation Nigeria, alerts of an imminent attack in the region and calls for urgent deployment of security forces to the affected areas.
He appeals for relief materials for survivors through the ADA National President, Mr Benjamin Isah and the Community leader, Comrade Elias Atabo.
Aduojo also calls for establishment of police stations and military bases in vulnerable locations.
While emphasizing the need for government intervention and compensation for victims, Aduojo urges a thorough federal investigation into the crisis, deaths and destruction of farmlands, property and human lives in Bagana District, Agojeju-Odo, Obakume and Agbenema-Ife.
Reminiscing the circumstances that led to the attack on the community, he said it is unfortunate that the people of Agojeju-Odo; Ajokpachi-Odo, and Bagana have been left to their fate since the ugly incident occurred.
According to him: “The attacks on Bagana and the Agatu in Benue State was since 2013, which led to the destruction of land, property and innocent, unarmed People in Omala LGA.
“Bagana District is a ghost town because the attackers are using it as their base to attack the Agatus passing through Agojeju-Odo and Ajokpachi-Odo (the immediate boundary town of Omala LGA with the Agatus in Benue State).
“They have destroyed the people’s farmlands including their crops, and starvation is already afflicting the people”.
“The rains are here but our people cannot go to their God-given farms, for fear of being attacked and killed. Who will cushion the lives of children being suddenly made orphans by the killing of their parents?
