Reps PDP Members Demand Resignation Of PDP Nat’l Chairman

todayApril 8, 2024

Background

People’s Democratic Party PDP, House of Representatives Members have demanded for the resignation of the Acting National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Umar Damagum, citing Anti-party Activities.

At a Media conference in Abuja, the Spokesperson of the Coalition of opposition of Federal Lawmakers Ikenga Ugochinyere alleged that Alhaji Damagun is planning to handover the Party structure of the Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The move to use serving APC Members in Rivers state and 10 other states to lead our party caretaker at the state, local and ward level is the highest act of political provocation and impunity that we are going to fight with everything in us. PDP cant be handed over the APC”.

The group also threatened that if the request of the group is not granted, the 60 Lawmakers under the group have no option than to seek alliance with other parties.

Where these demands are not met, we the Opposition lawmakers coalition from PDP in the National Assembly will be left with no other options but suspend participating in the party activities and seek new political relationship where decisions in that party will not be taken in the Secretariat of another political party.”

According to him, there are alleged Plans to temper with the original list of caretakers in Rivers State and other ten States.

The group expressed concern that the acting PDP national Chairman made no effort to resolve the PDP Political crisis in Rivers State adding that Nigerians are suffering because the PDP has no direction to play the role of opposition under the leadership of Alhaji Umar Damagum.
