As the African/Oceania Olympic qualifiers in Alexandria, Egypt conclude, Ashton Mutuwa has joined list of Nigerian Wrestlers heading to Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Nigerian-American wrestler Mutuwa pinned Justin Van Zyl (16-8) to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
Mutuwa, who recently chose to compete for Nigeria, will be wrestling in the Paris Olympics for the first time.

Nigerian Harrison Onovwiomobohwo 86kg missed out on Olympic slot to Australian Jayden A. Lawrence after losing 4-4 points criteria decision.
Braveman Oyeinkeperemo (74kg) fell short in the semis, losing 2-10 to Guinea-Bissau’s Bacar Ndum. This adds to the disappointment for Nigerian men’s freestyle wrestling.
Earlier, Simeon Enozumini and Izolo Stephen lost their matches before the men’s freestyle semifinals.
Before Sunday’s bouts, four Nigerian female wrestlers have joined Odunayo Adekuoroye to qualify for the Games in Paris.
Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg) qualified for Paris in 2023 with a World Championship bronze in Belgrade.
Meanwhile, Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborodudu booked her place at the 2024 Paris Olympics after a 2-0 pinfall victory over Uilau I. Tarkong of Palau In The 68kg.
Nigerian wrestler Hannah Reuben (76kg) won the World Military Championship and secured an Olympic berth in Paris, defeating Amy Youin (Ivory Coast) 6-0.
Esther Kolawole also qualified for the Paris Olympics in wrestling with a 10-0 win, adding to her African titles.
African Games champion Christiana Ogunsanya 53kg overpowered Egyptian Shaimaa Atef Barakat
Mohamed 10-0 superiority to secure Paris Games qualification.
However, Mercy Genesis lost her 50kg wrestling Olympic qualifier to Egypt’s Nada Mohamed, missing out on Paris.
Meanwhile, the remaining Olympic slots will be decided in May 9-12 at the 2024 World qualification tournament in Istanbul, Turkey, offering three quota places per weight category to the two highest-ranked wrestlers and the champion of a wrestle-off between two bronze medalists.
