The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC wants political parties to keep to the time table and schedule of activities for the off cycle governorship elections coming up in Edo and Ondo States this year.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu made the call in Abuja during the first quarterly consultative meeting with leaders of political parties.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu who said the commission would not extend the time table beyond the deadline already published noted that keeping to the time table would help to avoid last minute rush and enable the commission publish the personal particulars of candidates as required by law.

He also urged political parties to avoid acrimonious primaries, conduct of parallel primaries and emergence of candidates.
According to him, some of these infractions lead to unnecessary litigations among party members in which the commission is always joined as a party.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu stressed that legal fees and cost of producing certified true copies of documents can be used more productively in other electoral activities by both political parties and INEC.
In a remark, National Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle said the council would work with INEC and other stakeholders in the electoral process to further consolidate on the nation’s Democracy.

Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle reassured that the council would ensure that the party adhered to internal democracy and ensure that all political parties participate fully in electoral system.
