African Games 2023: Team Nigeria Moves Up On Medal Table

Six late Gold medals on Monday from Rofiat Lawal and Adijat Olarinoye in women’s weightlifting moved Nigeria above Algeria and South Africa on the Medal Table at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra Ghana.

Adijat and Rofiat delivered three gold each in the 55kg and 59kg events, respectively, to take Nigeria’s gold medal haul to 16 on Monday.

Earlier, another debutant weightlifter, Joseph Edidiong Umoafia, won 3 Gold in the Men’s 67kg event.

Nigeria is currently ranked second on the medals table with a total of 41 medals (16 Gold, 10 Silver, and 15 Bronze) from five disciplines at the

Egypt leads the medals standing with a total of 84 medals (47 Gold, 19 Silver, and 18 Bronze). Algeria dropped to the third spot with a total of 55 medals (15 Gold, 20 Silver, and 20 Bronze).
