Team Nigerian claimed a clean sweep of six gold medals in the Women’s Freestyle Wrestling category in the 13th edition of the African Games in Ghana.
Mercy Genesis (50kg) and Ogunsanya Christiana (53kg) had won gold medals in their respective wrestling categories.
Adekuroye Odunayo (57kg) needed only 24 seconds to defeat her Moroccan opponent Zineb Hassoune, securing a victory by fall (6-0) to win Nigeria’s third gold medal.

Oborodudu Blessing and Kolowole Esther followed suit, winning gold in the 68kg and 62kg respectively.
The sixth gold medal was won by Hannah Rubin (76kg), a soldier in the Nigerian army
Meanwhile, before then, Nigeria’s Anioluwapo Opeyori, the African Badminton champion, brought home one gold medal and one silver medal with his Nigerian opponent in final.
Team Nigerian is looking forward to more success in the coming days of the competition, with other contingents expected to do well in their respective sports.
Following the impressive performance in the wrestling, Team Nigeria moved up to fourth place with seven gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.
