In response to escalating security concerns, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has reiterated the prohibition of unauthorized use of military camouflage attire.

According to a statement by the Director Information Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Henshaw Ogubike, the directive extends solely to the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police Force during joint operations, as outlined by law.

Matawalle’s reaffirmation of the ban comes amidst reports of criminals exploiting military and paramilitary uniforms to perpetrate illicit activities within the country.

The Minister emphasized the imperative of restricting the use of military attire to duly authorized personnel, highlighting the necessity to curb criminal infiltration.

Underscoring the need for stringent regulation to thwart criminal endeavors Matawalle stressed that the present security climate does not permit the indiscriminate use of military camouflage by unauthorized individual.

Acknowledging the grave repercussions of unchecked proliferation, the Minister maintained the government’s stance on limiting the use of military attire exclusively to designated security agencies.

Notably, he cited the directive issued by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, mandating para-military agencies to discontinue the use of camouflage uniforms in accordance with national security interests.

While stressing the enforcement of extant laws governing camouflage uniform usage, Matawalle emphasized the pivotal role of this measure in enhancing security operations and safeguarding against potential threats.

In light of the ongoing security challenges, the Ministry of Defence remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the sanctity of military attire and preserving public safety.
