To enhance safety measures in the Federal Capital Territory, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Benneth Igweh, has initiated a total revamp of the security approach in the FCT, ordering a crackdown on unregistered vehicles.
He gave the directive during a meeting with the Management Team, leaders of tactical units, and Heads of Departments within the FCT Command, including Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs).
The purpose of the meeting, according to the Commissioner, was to overhaul the existing security framework and implement a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety of residents in the Federal Capital Territory.
Addressing the officers, CP Igweh urged the adoption of intelligence-led policing and emphasized the importance of visibility policing through regular stop-and-search duties in the ongoing fight against criminality.
He also stressed the need for effective community partnership and declared zero tolerance for any laxity in the performance of their duties.
Furthermore, CP Igweh tasked the heads of tactical units to identify black spots and possible kidnappers’ dens within the territory, instructing them to take proactive measures against these criminal elements. He also instructed a total clampdown on vehicles without number plates or those with a single number plate plying FCT roads.
CP Benneth reiterated his unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities in the Territory and called on residents to collaborate with the Police in the fight against crime.
He also advised against boarding vehicles along the road and unapproved parks to enhance personal safety and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
