The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC is to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders and non-governmental organizations towards achieving the United Nations Decade of Action on Road Safety by the year 2030.
The Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali-Biu stated this in Abuja at a forum on challenges of pre-crash and post-crash issues in Nigeria and the way forward. READ ALSO : Abide By Traffic Rules For Safer Roads – FRSC
Represented by Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu, the FRSC Corps Marshal said new initiatives introduced and support from the Federal Government contributed to the recent reduction in road accidents across the country.
Dauda Ali-Biu said no fewer than One Hundred and fifty four FRSC Ambulance Points have been established across the country functioning 24 hours daily to attend to emergency cases
He appealed to motorists particularly commercial drivers to change their attitude and keep to simple traffic rules and regulations.
Leader of the Civil Society Organization, Dr. Yusuf John-Subberu -Suberu said the lack of inter-agency cooperation among stakeholders in the post-crash activities coupled with inadequate funding by the government at all levels was hindering the realization of the UN Decade of Action.
He stressed the need for international Donors to support government and non-governmental organizations for the promotion of safety on Nigeria roads.
Representatives of the Nigeria police force and FCT Directorate of Transport Service in their separate remarks stressed the need for drivers to always check their vehicles before embarking on long journeys.
