Mahmoud Pledges Support For House Committee On FCT

House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters has been inaugurated to address diverse issues of concern within the territory.

During the occasion at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, pledged FCTA’s commitment to support members to enable them discharge their constitutional oversight functions.

The minister also used the medium to commend members for their acceptance to serve in the committee.

She noted that the Committee Members would aid development and coordination of people oriented activities in the area councils.

Dr Mahmoud added that they would also serve as a veritable influence in promoting effective local governance and implementation of policies at the grassroots.

According to her; “This include, but not limited to, overseeing local governance, infrastructure development, and addressing ancillary issues that impact on the overall well-being of the residents in the Territory.”

The Minister of State for FCT promised to work together with the committee to effectively monitor implementation of policies that will improve living standards of residents and visitors in the territory.

Earlier, Chairman, House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, Agbedi Fred, who pledged the committee’s readiness to continue to legislate on policies that would foster rapid development across the area councils, called for FCTA’s support in the areas of tourism, revenue drive, development of rural infrastructure, sports, chieftancy affairs among others.
